Family/Whanau weekend is a special time for family members to join and support their family members in treatment at St Marks.
Friday evening commences with everyone contributing to a Mihi, Waiata, housekeeping, safety and discussion on the programme for the weekend. This is followed by supper and a chance for family catch ups and for our therapeutic community to welcome family/whanau.
Saturday begins with breakfast and then to work!! This is a day of education on addiction and the effects on family/whanau, communication skills and individual counselling sessions for our residents and their family members. Recovery and Alanon meetings are held in the evening after a sumptuous dinner, cooked by St Marks staff and the assistants are often past graduates, supporters of St Marks and some of the client group who may not have family present.
Our last group on Sunday is “Needs & Appreciation” which is powerful, emotional and healing - in strengthening family/whanau connections.
Children are often present throughout the weekend and it is always heartening to have the laughter and freedom that they bring to this event – enjoyed by all and extremely special for the family members in treatment.
The Family/Whanau weekend is concluded with a brunch and Poroporoake to complete an awesome weekend.
